a. Cheyney University is founded in 1837: Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is a historically black liberal arts college located in Cheyney, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1837 by the Quaker minister and educator, Rev. Richard Humphreys, as the Institute for Colored Youth. It is the oldest historically black college in the United States.<br /><br />b. Brown v Board of Education in 1954: Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka was a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court in 1954. The case overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of 1896, which had established the "separate but equal" doctrine that allowed for racial segregation in public facilities. The Brown v. Board of Education decision declared that segregated public schools were inherently unequal and violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.<br /><br />c. Milliken v Bradley in 1974: Milliken v. Bradley was a Supreme Court case in 1974 that dealt with the issue of busing for school integration. The case arose from a lawsuit filed by the NAACP against the Detroit public school system, which had been using busing to desegregate schools. The Supreme Court ruled that the federal courts did not have the authority to order busing programs that went beyond the boundaries of a single school district, effectively ending the use of busing as a tool for desegregation.
