The gravitational pull of the moon helps to generate, or control, tides. The moon's gravity exerts a pulling force on Earth's oceans, causing the water to bulge out in the direction of the moon. This results in high tides. Additionally, the sun's gravitational pull also affects tides, but to a lesser extent compared to the moon.
