## Step 1<br />The Northwest Territory was a region of the United States that was established after the American Revolutionary War. This territory was created by the Congress of the Confederation of the United States on July 13, 1787, through the Northwest Ordinance. The territory included all of the present-day states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, as well as northeastern Minnesota.<br />## Step 2<br />The Northwest Territory did not include California or Iowa. These states were not part of the Northwest Territory.<br />## Step 3<br />California became a state in 1850, and Iowa became a state in 1846, both of which are after the Northwest Territory was established.
